Taking care of myself

The election was so intense that I totally forgot about my health. That’s a lesson learned! From now on, I’m putting my health first, which means cutting out all my political news and opinion feeds. I have enough health problems without adding stress to that list. I fought hard to get back to where I am and embraced kindness as a way of life.

Our humanity connects us, not divides us. Recently, some people tried to divide us, but they partially succeeded. Kindness is a way to accept and deal with the world we live in. Kindness is a way of gradual change for us. There are no quick fixes because kindness focuses on 1-1 human interaction. We help each other and accept help from others when it is also offered in the spirit of kindness.

The road to kindness is enriching and exhilarating, although there are times of rejection and ridicule, but the journey is worth it in the end. I am on that journey now. No one really reaches the end of the road; we just continue onward throughout our life. Sadly, too many people never start the journey. They are prisoners of the material world, where kindness is seen as weakness and something that gets in the way of personal satisfaction. If that is the case, why are so many people miserable?

Material things are wonderful, but they’re not the source of happiness. The consumer culture wants us to run through a maze in pursuit of material things that are advertised to bring us happiness. We spend our lives programmed to go through the motions instead of living in the moment. We are always striving for something that is just out of reach. The sad fact is that we are taught to fear other people instinctively.

There is no reason for us to do so. There will always be people who cannot be trusted, who want to take advantage of us, but by living in fear of our fellow humans, we miss out on the beauty of connection.
