Podcast setup almost complete

I am almost ready to start audio testing for my podcast. I set up an extra desk for my audio interface and repositioned my mic on my left side since that is my dominant hand. Equipment is almost all connected now. I might need a long USB C to USB C cable. I’ll have to look for one or buy one over the next few days.

It feels good having so much already done. Hal and I were on the road recently, so things waited until Tuesday to continue. I’m glad I saved the small desk because it fits the space perfectly. The room doesn’t have extra space. I repositioned the shelves for more room. It’s a tight fit, but I can make it work.

Podcast subject

My podcast will focus on Kindness, especially in a world gone mad like we’re living in today. Collectively, we lost the ability to communicate. Instead, we argue, which usually devolves into who can shout the loudest for the most extended period.

We also lost the ability to empathize with others. This mindset leads to demonizing those we disagree with on many subjects.

We take words and mutilate them in ways that would make Orwell proud. Jingoistic catchphrases are tossed about so frequently that they lose meaning. Terms like “woke,” “CRT,” and “trans” pollute the airwaves without any definition attached to them.

Podcast preparation

I’ve talked about podcast preparation before, but it helps my focus. Once I get my audio mix where I want, I can start practicing mini-episodes. I’ll start with thirty seconds to get comfortable talking into a microphone without hesitating or pausing unnecessarily. After that test is successful, I’ll test for one minute until I can go for at least five minutes. I want to be authentic but professional as well.

My testing schedule will also help me with episode planning and script writing. I want to stay focused on a subject and not just yammer for each episode. Scriptwriting will help me with all my other writing too.

I can’t overemphasize how vital scriptwriting is to any good podcast. If I’m planning a five-minute podcast, I’ll start with the subject and try to focus on five aspects of that subject. Then I can compose smaller one-minute segments to build up the content.

Podcast publicizing

The next step is getting a podcast out to the world. I use BuzzSprout to prepare my podcast for acceptance to the most widespread platforms like Apple and Google. I might even attempt to put my podcast on Spotify as well.

Opening up

The best thing I can do is speak from experience and from the heart. My life and experience have guided me to this juncture, and I won’t tell an untruth. There are parts of my life that will never be discussed, that is only normal.

Consistency

I plan to write and record at least one podcast weekly. I believe that is a good benchmark to start from. As I mentioned earlier, all preparation and writing gets easier with repetition.

Messaging is critical, so I must stay on point with each episode. My focus is Kindness and Respect for each other. If I need to discuss anything else, I will make an episode specifically for that reason.
