January 2, 2024

I spent most of New Year's Day in bed, sleeping. I needed the rest. I stayed up till about 2:30 on New Year's Eve with Hal, watching the celebrations and hearing some of the music, and woke up again at about 9:30 with my blood sugar starting to rise.

I took some medicine and felt very unwell, but after lying down, everything seemed to calm down. Not the best way to start the new year, but it could have been a lot worse, and I'm just going to enjoy the fact that I was able to sleep. I must have needed it and look forward to improving this day.

Of course, it wouldn't be a typical night without my blood sugar plummeting. I've got something sweet to drink, and hopefully, that'll correct the problem within a few more minutes. It's never straightforward to go through the middle of the night and know that you will have a blood sugar plummeting event, but it is what it is. Trying to keep things focused is a balancing act, but I do my best.

I woke up on Tuesday morning feeling really under the weather. At least there's nowhere I have to go now, so I'm just going to lay in bed and try to feel better.

Hal is here with me as always, as well as the Stooges. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about anything with them here. I'm just thankful that I'm safe, warm, and loved. When you look at things, there's nothing more I could ask for. As far as the writing goes, I'm using the dictation tool once again because it's so much easier to get my thoughts out this way than it is sitting there trying to type them, so maybe this is an excellent start to the new year to have me a new tool to write with.

I got my diabetic pedicure this afternoon. I can't properly care for my toenails, so I indulge at a nearby nail salon. I wish I had started this treatment years ago. It is so lovely getting treated to a relaxing session.

While we were out, Hal bought me an anniversary/birthday gift. It is a portrait of guitars that will soon hang over my bed. We aren't big on gifts anymore; I want a nice dinner for my birthday later this month.

When my pedicure was finished, it marked the end of the day’s adventure away from home—my evening consisted of dinner, a hot shower, and then to bed so I could write about tomorrow.
