Finding the new ME
I recently promised myself that I would start writing regularly again. This wasn't my first time making that promise, but I wanted it to be the last. I am committing myself to writing at least one story per day from now on. I know there will be the occasional lapse, but I want the overall effort to be successful. My writing will never improve if I don't put more consistent effort into it.
Fortunately, I always have a backlog of story ideas I can draw on each day when inspiration doesn't come that easily. I want to start writing about current events, but there are some days when nothing interests me. I also have my prompt journal that I can use for ideas when the news sucks.
Getting back into the daily writing habit is challenging but worth the effort. I have drawn inspiration from several authors who all stressed that writing is something one must do regularly to gain proficiency. There is no other way to get better.
Another critical approach I must follow is to write things down and edit them later. There is no such thing as a perfect first draft of a story or a blog post. These things take time and concentration to get right. My routine needs to adjust to this new philosophy to make me a better writer.
So, I have a lot of work and adjusting ahead of me, but there is no time like the present to start. This summary of my efforts will be my baseline for future reflection and progress monitoring.
